Creative Problem Solvers

We see opportunities where others see obstacles. Our approach combines analytical rigor with creative thinking to unlock solutions that drive real impact.

Hands-on Partnership

We work alongside your teams, not above them. Your challenges become our challenges. Your victories become our victories.

Systems Thinking

Complex problems require systemic solutions. We understand how all the pieces fit together and optimize for sustainable, organization-wide transformation.

Who We Are

Founded by former entrepreneurs, VCs, and operators who have together built, scaled, and exited multiple companies, we bring real-world experience to every engagement. Although we are incisive, we do not just advise. We roll up our sleeves and help you execute.

The Partnership

Meet the partners who watched the consulting industry turn into corporate theater before deciding to build something better. Valerie Hoecke and Chris Tacy haven't just talked the talk. They walked it, lived it, built it, and delivered it repeatedly across 30-year careers.

Together, Chris and Valerie bring 60 years of combined experience in the exact problems 808MPH solves. They have built the ventures, managed the portfolios, closed the deals, and delivered the transformations that other consultants only theorize about. And they have done this successfully during boom periods - and during bust periods.

They are not building 808MPH to scale it, flip it, or franchise it. They are building it to solve the hardest problems in business with the kind of direct, hands-on expertise that only comes from decades of actually doing the work. When you hire 808MPH, you get both of them. Not their junior staff. Not their frameworks. Them.

Valerie Hoecke

Work

Valerie has built businesses in over 40 countries, founded two startups with successful exits, and led digital transformation for some of the most iconic brands on the planet. She spent eight years tripling revenues at Benefit Cosmetics, then moved up to become Global Chief Digital Officer for LVMH Beauty's $8 billion portfolio, modernizing 16 luxury brands and accelerating their digital sales in just three years.

After her time at LVMH, Valerie served as COO of Dia&Co, the Sequoia and Union Square-backed startup, where she managed all business functions and drove a successful pivot that elevated the entire brand – before joining the global Venture Consultancy Mach49, where she ran the Board Member in Residence team. Before her work with luxury brands, Valerie co-founded Fire Engine Red, a boutique consultancy that was profitable from year one and worked with clients like Accel Partners, Oracle, Sony Entertainment, and Mayfield Fund. The firm was acquired by Rare Medium Group, where she created and managed the Venture Strategy Group.

Valerie moves fluidly between startups and large corporations because she understands both worlds completely. Her team-building expertise and instinct for big opportunities have been tested across every type of business challenge you can imagine.

Recent Experience: Board Member In Residence at Mach49, COO at Dia&Co (Sequoia-backed), Global Chief Digital Officer at LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics

In Real Life

Water runs through everything Valerie does. As a two-time World Championship competitor on the US National Dragonboat team and international outrigger canoe paddler, she learned that elite performance requires both individual excellence and seamless team coordination. The same focus that drove her success as an athlete drives how she approaches impossible business problems. Water teaches patience, timing, and the difference between fighting forces you can't control and harnessing the ones you can.

Growing up with immigrant parents shaped her understanding that adaptation isn't just survival – it's advantage. Her work across Chinese, French, British, Korean, Spanish, and Latin American markets, plus time living in the Philippines, Tanzania, and Zanzibar, taught her that cultural fluency means more than speaking the language. It means reading the room, understanding what's not being said, and building trust across completely different ways of seeing the world. These experiences made her a translator between cultures, markets, and mindsets in ways that boardroom education never could.

Now rooted in her adopted home of Hawaiʻi, she tends gardens that feed both her family and her community. Living in relationship with the land and supporting the people of this place has taught her that real sustainability requires thinking beyond quarterly earnings. She grows food, builds community connections, and approaches business challenges with the long-term perspective that comes from understanding your role in something much bigger than yourself. The ocean, the soil, and the community keep her grounded in what actually matters when the pressure gets intense and the stakes get high.

Chris Tacy

Work

Chris sees the future. He saw the internet coming before most people knew what a website was. In 1994, he pitched an online business concept to his employer's board, got shot down in favor of a print publication, then told them their entire industry was doomed. A year later, they admitted he was right. That kind of foresight doesn't happen by accident.

Since then, Chris has been a founder or executive at five successful startups, managed a $325 million corporate venture fund, and closed corporate development deals worth over $2 billion. His investment track record speaks louder than any slide deck: over $100 million in returns on less than $7.5 million invested. He has worked with Baker Hughes, Oracle, Google, Lockheed Martin, Xerox, Sony, Viacom, and Nike. At Mach49, he built the Venture Strategy practice and spent five years partnering with Global 1000 leadership teams to unlock growth that actually moved the needle.

Chris doesn't just understand business model disruption. He creates it. He has been doing corporate venture transformation since before it had a name, and his instincts for spotting the future remain as sharp as ever.

Recent Experience: General Partner in Residence at TDK Ventures, Chief Strategy Officer at Mach49, Board Member at Inflect Health, Corporate Development at Mozilla Corporation.

In Real Life

Growing up poor and outside the mainstream taught Chris that the view from the margins is clearer than the view from the center. Living under the Federal poverty line didn't just build character, it built hunger. The kind of hunger that drives you up cliffs as a professional climber, into two World Championships as a US National Dragonboat team member, and through every business challenge with the unshakeable belief that losing isn't an option. Whether guiding climbers up mountains, battling on soccer fields and hockey rinks, or navigating boardrooms, he learned early that outsiders see opportunities that insiders miss because they're not blinded by how things are supposed to work.

The kitchen and the stage were his first classrooms in creativity under pressure. Working the line as a cook, then sous chef, then chef taught him that excellence happens in real time with no room for excuses. Being in bands, DJing, and making music sharpened his ear for rhythm, timing, and reading the room. These experiences shaped how he approaches business: you blend ingredients that shouldn't work together, you adjust on the fly when things go wrong, and you know when to build energy and when to let it breathe. Words became his tools for telling stories that move people, whether in a pitch deck or around a dinner table.

Now happily living in Hawaiʻi, he grows food to share because abundance means nothing if you keep it to yourself. Cultivating crops that end up in meals for friends and community taught him that the best business outcomes come from thinking beyond your own success. Supporting the people of the place and understanding your role in something larger than quarterly profits grounds every decision he makes. Whether he's in the garden, the kitchen, or a client meeting, the question is always the same: how do we create something that nourishes everyone involved and builds something that lasts?

Get In Touch

Ready to tackle your toughest challenges? Let's start the conversation.

Every business has those problems. The complex, messy, nobody-knows-where-to-start nightmares that keep executives awake at 3am wondering if they should pivot, persevere, or panic. The ones where generic frameworks fail and junior consultants crumble. Those are exactly the problems we exist to solve.

We have spent decades uncovering new and novel growth oppotunities, unlocking the hidden value in customer bases and businesses, and in the end creating high financial and strategic value portfolios.

808MPH doesn't do cookie-cutter consulting. Every engagement is built from scratch around your specific circumstances, your unique context, and your actual business reality. Because the truth is, your problems are as unique as your opportunities.

While we don't sell you templates, generic methodologies, or one-size-fits-all solutions - we do have decades of frameworks and strategies and tools and patterns to bring to bear on your biggest challenges.

Ready to work with people who've actually solved the problems you're facing? Let's talk.

Corporate Venture Capital

We've managed the funds, closed the deals, and built the portfolios. Chris delivered over $100 million in corporate venture returns on $7.5M invested, and later ran a $325 million corporate venture fund. Valerie structured partnerships across 40+ countries and managed venture relationships for global brands. Both have raised venture capital, and have managed startup exits – including as corporate spin-offs. We provide investment committee coaching, deal analysis, portfolio company mentoring, due diligence support, and best practices consulting for companies serious about corporate venturing. Not theory. Results.

IP, R&D, and Venture Commercialization Strategy

Most companies sit on goldmines of underutilized intellectual property while wondering why their innovation budgets aren't driving growth. We identify value hiding in plain sight, map clear paths from lab to market, design capital allocation strategies that actually work, and develop use cases that turn research into revenue. We've commercialized everything from energy solutions to consumer products to enterprise software.

Innovation, AI and Transformation Strategy

Real innovation isn't about following trends or copying competitors. It's about understanding where your industry is heading and getting there first. We cut through the hype to build strategies that deliver measurable impact - and work with you and your teams to make sure that impact is delivered. We design growth strategies with teeth, conduct assessments that lead to action, and create portfolio strategies that generate real value. Our transformation work doesn't just reorganize deck chairs. It rebuilds businesses for the future they're actually facing.

Venture Studio Operationalization and Governance

Building a venture studio is hard. Most fail because they're designed by people who've never actually built ventures. We provide end-to-end venture studio strategy, operational consulting, remediation, process design, capital strategy, venture assessment, and governance frameworks. We've built and operated studios that work because we understand both the startup side and the corporate side of the equation.

Portfolio Strategy and Management

We bring vision to Portfolio Strategy, and discipline to Portfolio Management while helping build your people and teams. We provide capability development through mentoring and coaching, and access to assets and resources. We work with you to put bespoke structures and processes in place to enable good portfolio decision-making.

How We Deliver

Velocity

Speed matters. We move from analysis to action faster than anyone in the industry.

Change

We embrace change as the only constant and help you turn disruption into advantage.

Impact

We're here to solve problems that matter, not just problems that pay well.

Winning Together

Your victories are our victories. We don't win unless you win.

Our clients are CEOs, Chief Strategy Officers, Chief Innovation Officers, and Board Members at Global 1000 companies who are done with consultants who promise transformation and deliver theater. They're the executives who know that 95% of innovation initiatives fail not because innovation is hard, but because most consultants are selling methodologies instead of results. These are the decision-makers who understand that perfect execution of flawed strategy is still expensive failure.

Our best clients are the ones who challenge us as much as we challenge them. They're building corporate venture portfolios, designing venture studios, commercializing breakthrough R&D, and transforming business models while their competitors are still debating pilot programs. They include corporate venture capital organizations, private equity partners, startup founders scaling through critical inflection points, and corporate executives managing transformation initiatives that actually move the needle. These leaders don't need hand-holding or inspirational frameworks. They need partners who can match their velocity, understand their constraints, and deliver outcomes that justify their investment. They appreciate that we skip the dog and pony show and get straight to solving the real problems that determine whether their initiatives succeed or become expensive learning experiences.

If you're looking for consultants who will validate your existing assumptions, confirm what is politically expedient, and deliver slide decks that make everyone feel good, we're not the right fit. If you want partners who will tell you what you need to hear, design solutions that work in your specific context, and stick around until you get the results you hired us to deliver, let's talk.

Some problems need ongoing advisory relationships. Some need discrete project work. Most need combinations of both. We structure engagements around what you actually need, not what we want to sell. Long-term advisory relationships for complex transformation work. Discrete projects for specific challenges. Hybrid approaches for everything in between. Whatever gets you the best outcome fastest.

Ready to Get Started?

Let's discuss how we can help solve your specific challenges.

We are not a traditional consulting firm.

We don't send armies of junior consultants to conduct interviews and create PowerPoint decks. Our partners do the work, and we focus on outcomes, not deliverables.

We are not process consultants.

We don't optimize your existing broken systems or help you implement yesterday's best practices. We help you leapfrog to tomorrow's opportunities.

We are not innovation theater experts.

We don't do performative work. We do not run design sprints, hackathons, or innovation labs that are unintegrated from your business, generating excitement but no results. We build things that work in the real world.

We are not for everyone.

We speak truth. If you want someone to validate your existing plans, we're not your consultants. If you want someone to tell you what you want to hear, look elsewhere. If you want real transformation, let's talk.

We do not do small problems.

If your challenge can be solved with a generic template, framework, or standard best practice, you don't need us. We tackle the problems that keep executives awake at night.

Think You Might Be Different?

If you're ready for honest feedback and real transformation, we'd love to hear from you.
